How to Change Staking Reward Token

Change the token your Marinade Native position pays out in, at any time, without unstaking your SOL.

Written by CopyCat

You can change the token your Marinade Native position pays out in at any time. You can switch from one reward token to another, or switch to or from SOL. Your SOL is never unstaked or returned to you during a switch.

How to change your reward token

  1. Find your position on the Marinade site and click Manage.

  2. Under "My position," click Edit rewards.

  3. In Rewards settings, choose the token you want.

  4. Confirm the change in your wallet.

Will switching interrupt my rewards?

It depends on the switch:

  • Switching from one reward token to another (for example USDG to cbBTC) is seamless. Your stake keeps earning the whole time.

  • Switching to or from SOL moves your stake across validators, so your stake does not earn rewards for about one epoch. If you switch very close to the end of an epoch, the change can miss that epoch's cutoff and take up to two epochs. To keep it to a single epoch, avoid switching in the final moments of an epoch. Your SOL stays staked throughout either way.

When your new token starts

A reward-token change takes effect from the next epoch. The current epoch's rewards are paid in your previous token, and from the following epoch your rewards are converted to the new token and airdropped to your wallet.

What switching to SOL does

Choosing SOL returns your position to standard Marinade Native staking, so it is no longer a Customized Rewards position.

Important: you will not receive SOL airdropped to your wallet. Unlike the other reward tokens, SOL rewards are auto-compounded back into your staked position, so your stake grows over time instead of tokens landing in your wallet. If you want rewards paid out to your wallet, choose a token other than SOL.

Before you switch

  • For any payout token, make sure your wallet has that token's account open, or payouts will pause until you open it. This does not apply when you switch to SOL, since SOL compounds rather than being airdropped.

  • There is no Marinade fee to switch. You pay only the standard Solana network transaction fee.

  • You can switch as often as you like, with no limit.

  • Reward switching is for Marinade Native positions only. Marinade Select does not have it.

📊 Note on the Staking Rewards Report

Rewards paid in a non-SOL token are airdropped to your wallet each epoch and are not included in the in-app Staking Rewards Report — the report only covers SOL-denominated Marinade Native and Marinade Select rewards. To track customized rewards, use your wallet's transaction history or a Solana explorer such as Solscan.

FAQ

Q: Is there a fee to switch?

A: No Marinade fee. You pay only the standard Solana network transaction fee to submit the change.

Q: How often can I switch?

A: As often as you like. There is no limit.

Q: Does switching unstake my SOL?

A: No. Your SOL stays staked and is never returned to you.

Q: Why did I miss some rewards after switching to or from SOL?

A: Switching between SOL and a reward token moves your stake between validator setups. Your stake does not earn rewards for about one epoch during that move, or up to two epochs if you switched right at the end of an epoch. Switching between two reward tokens does not have this gap.

Q: Can I switch back to SOL?

A: Yes. Choose SOL in Rewards settings, and your position returns to standard SOL staking, compounding in SOL.

Q: If I choose SOL, will SOL be airdropped to my wallet?

A: No. Choosing SOL switches your position to standard Marinade Native staking, and your SOL rewards auto-compound into your stake. Nothing is airdropped to your wallet. To receive rewards in your wallet, pick a token other than SOL.

Q: Which tokens can I choose?

A: SOL and any of the reward tokens available for Marinade Recipes. See "What Are Marinade Recipes?" for the current list.
