Why Did My Recipe Rewards Stop?

How a closed asset token account can stop your rewards and how to fix it.

Written by Johnny

This can happen with any Recipe reward token: USDG, USDC, cbBTC, SPYx, and the rest. If you have been receiving rewards but they have suddenly stopped, you may have closed the token account for your payout token.

What Is a Payout Token Account?

A payout token account is a Solana token account in your wallet that holds the balance of the token your Recipe pays out in, whether that is USDG, cbBTC, SPYx, or another token. It is required for our system to airdrop your rewards to you. Without an active account for that token, we have no way to send your rewards.

How Does It Get Closed?

Closing a token account is not something that happens by accident. It requires you to manually confirm a transaction in your wallet. This can happen if you use a wallet management feature that sweeps or closes empty or low-balance token accounts, or if you manually closed it yourself. Either way, once the account is closed, your rewards will stop.

Why Doesn't Marinade Open the Account for Me?

Opening a Solana token account requires a small, refundable SOL deposit called rent (roughly 0.002 SOL), which is returned to you if the account is ever closed. Marinade used to open and fund these accounts automatically, but some users repeatedly opened and closed accounts across many wallets to reclaim that funded rent, taking more than their rewards were worth. To keep rewards fair for everyone, you now open and fund your own token account. Since the rent is your own SOL, you get it back if you ever close the account.

How to Fix It

To reopen the account, you need to receive any amount of your payout token into your wallet. If you do not have another account to send it from, you can use a DEX such as Jupiter to swap a small amount into that token. For example, if your Recipe pays out in USDG, swapping as little as 0.000001 USDC to USDG is enough to reopen the account. Once your account is active, your missed rewards will be airdropped to you automatically. No further action is needed.

Will I Recover All My Missed Rewards?

Up to 2 weeks of missed rewards are preserved on-chain and will be automatically reclaimed for you once your account is reopened. However, if your account has been closed for longer than 2 weeks, any rewards beyond that window are permanently lost. This is why it is important to reopen your account as soon as possible.

How to Avoid This Happening Again

Keep your payout token account open at all times. If your wallet has an auto-close or token account management feature, make sure your payout token is excluded. Closing the account will always result in missed rewards until it is reopened.

Just deposited and waiting for your first reward?

This article does not apply to you. Please wait at least a few days as rewards may be delayed depending on the timing of your deposit and the current epoch cycle. You can refer to Where Are My Recipe Rewards? (USDG, USDC, cbBTC) for more details.
