Instant Unstake on Marinade

Learn how Instant Unstake lets you exit native SOL and mSOL positions immediately using a liquidity provider marketplace or DEX swap, and what affects the SOL you receive.

Written by Johnny

Instant Unstake lets you exit your staking position immediately instead of waiting for the usual one-epoch unlock on Solana.

Instead of scheduling your stake to deactivate and coming back later to claim, Instant Unstake finds liquidity right away so you can receive SOL in a single transaction.

It works for both:

  • Native staking (Marinade Native positions and other native stake accounts in your wallet)

  • Liquid staking (mSOL), where your position is swapped back to SOL via DEX at the current market rate

Eligibility. For native stake, Instant Unstake needs a stake account of 1 SOL or more that has been active for at least two epochs. A position below 1 SOL, or one still activating, can still be exited with Delayed Unstake.

If you do not want to accept the Instant Unstake quote shown in the app, you can always choose Delayed Unstake instead.

How Instant Unstake works

For Instant Unstake:

  • Native staking: The amount you receive is set by the best quote from liquidity providers in the marketplace. Marinade does not currently add an extra protocol fee on top of that quote (normal network fees still apply).

    • Instant Unstake has filled positions as large as 100,000 SOL, but available liquidity changes constantly and capacity is never guaranteed. A large position may return a poor quote, or no quote at all, at a given moment. You can consider unstaking in portions and then checking back later to unstake the rest.

  • mSOL: The difference between your mSOL value and the SOL you receive comes from market price, available liquidity, DEX fees, and slippage.

  1. Start an unstake from the Marinade app and choose Unstake now.

  2. The app requests a real-time quote to give you SOL now:

    1. For native stake, your request goes to a marketplace of liquidity providers.

    2. For mSOL, your request is routed through one or more DEXes.

  3. Marinade shows you the best quote received, including any DEX or LP costs and price impact.

  4. You review the estimated SOL you will receive and approve the transaction in your wallet if you're happy with it.

  5. Once the transaction confirms, you receive SOL immediately.

If the App Offers a Different Amount

The app may show a notice such as The nearest amount you can unstake instantly is X SOL, with an Adjust amount button.

A stake account cannot be left holding less than 1 SOL. If the amount you typed would leave less than that in the stake account, the app offers the nearest amount it can unstake instantly instead. Click Adjust amount to use that amount.

Unstake Settings

Click the gear icon next to Unstake now to open Unstake settings. There you can choose Unstake now (receive your funds in a matter of seconds) or Claim in ~1 day (manually claim your SOL in the next epoch). You can also set Slippage to 0.1%, 0.3% or 0.5%, and Priority fee to Low or High.

Things to keep in mind

  • Instant = SOL now. Amount is determined by liquidity provider/DEX quotes and market conditions.

  • Cost on Marinade Native and Select: 0.10% to 0.40%, set by the market. Marinade does not add a protocol fee on top of the quote. Only LP or DEX costs and normal network fees are reflected in it.

  • On mSOL, Instant is often the cheaper exit. There is no Marinade fee on an mSOL Instant Unstake, only the DEX spread, while Delayed Unstake of mSOL is a flat 0.2%. Compare the Receive amount on both before you choose. See Delayed Unstake on Marinade.

  • Size is not capped, but liquidity is. Very large positions may need to be unstaked in portions.

  • Don't like the quote? You can always back out and choose Delayed Unstake instead.

If Instant Unstake will not proceed at all, see Why Can't I Unstake?
