I Deposited But Have No Rewards Yet

Why your first rewards take longer than expected with Marinade Native, including what happens to stake positions under 2 SOL.

Written by Johnny

This applies to Marinade Native, whether your rewards are paid in SOL or in a Recipe token such as USDG, USDC, or cbBTC.

If an epoch has already ended and you still see no rewards, it is usually because your stake was not active for that full epoch.

Stake Has to Be Active for a Full Epoch

With native stake, your SOL does not become active instantly. When you deposit, especially in the middle of an epoch, your SOL first goes into an activating state for the rest of that epoch. It only becomes active at the start of the next epoch, and only stake that was active for the entire epoch earns rewards.

A simple timeline example:

  • You deposit in the middle of Epoch 100, so your stake is activating for the rest of Epoch 100 and does not earn yet

  • Your stake is active for all of Epoch 101, so it now earns staking rewards

  • Around the beginning of Epoch 102, rewards from Epoch 101 are processed and your first payout arrives

If Your Stake Is Under 2 SOL, It May Restart Activation

Marinade Native is actively managed. The rebalancer reviews validators every epoch and moves stake away from any that slip on uptime, commission, or performance. Your stake takes part automatically, which is what keeps it with validators that are performing well.

The trade-off is timing. Moving stake means deactivating it on one validator and delegating it to another, and newly delegated stake needs one full epoch to activate before it earns. Stake that gets moved while it is still activating starts that period again.

How a move is handled depends on the size of the stake account:

  • Solana requires a minimum of 1 SOL per stake account, so an account under 2 SOL cannot be split into two valid parts and has to move as a single block.

  • With larger accounts, the rebalancer splits off only the portion it needs to move, and the remainder keeps earning without interruption.

So a small position can be moved whole while it is still activating, and show no rewards for longer than you would expect. Your SOL is safe and your balance is unchanged throughout.

Holding above 2 SOL lets the split path apply, so your stake keeps earning through a rebalance while still getting the benefit of the reallocation.

If You Chose a Recipe Reward Token

Once an epoch where your stake was fully active ends, the process is:

  • Collect SOL staking rewards from all native stake accounts in your Recipe

  • Convert those SOL rewards into your payout token

  • Send your share to your wallet around the beginning of the following epoch

There is no claim button. Rewards are sent automatically once this process finishes.

Open a token account for your payout token. Rewards arrive as token airdrops, so your wallet needs an open account for the token your Recipe pays out in. Marinade does not open it for you. Create it before or right after you stake (a tiny swap for that token works), and keep it open. If it is closed, payouts pause. Up to 2 weeks of missed payouts are recovered when you reopen it, and anything older is lost.

Checking Where You Are in the Cycle

You can check epoch timing on Solscan:

  1. Go to https://solscan.io in your browser

  2. On the home page, look for the Epoch box, which shows the current epoch number, the progress through it, and the estimated time remaining

Compare your deposit time with the epoch that was live at that moment. If you deposited mid-epoch, your first reward appears only after your first full active epoch has finished and the next has started.
